Mark is the Chair of UK Welcomes Refugees and was formerly the CEO of Caritas Diocese of Salford (2009-2021). Prior to that Mark was CEO of Catholic Care (Diocese of Leeds) and Assistant Director of Caritas Care (Diocese of Lancaster). Hence Mark has been in a charity leadership role for over 25 years with special interest in governance, disability, homelessness, refugee resettlement and social action projects promoting the dignity of people experiencing poverty and discrimination.

I am attracted to the Community Sponsorship Alliance and have been a part of it since its beginning because it has the capacity to bring together the community sponsorship sector to work together to grow and improve the scheme. Originally, I was keen to promote the Principal Sponsors Alliance but recognised that the CSA had a greater capacity to bring together the main actors – principal sponsors, sponsor host organisations and the voice of refugees themselves. I am committed to the Community Sponsorship Alliance as I believe that collective action and partnership working in the refugee voluntary sector is a more effective way of doing advocacy and creating change that is needed to the system. Working together builds solidarity, friendships and relationships that can add value to the mission of our own charities and a united voice can amplify our cause.
